GENERAL
NAME: Beatrix Caoimhe Armstrong
NICKNAMES: Bea, but only to friends
AGE/DOB: 17/May 28
BLOOD STATUS: Halfblood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female; She/Her
SEXUALITY: Bisexual.
HOMETOWN: Beverly Hills, CA
CONCEPT: Wannabe villainess; actual jaded princess with a smart mouth and sharper tongue.
PHYSICAL
APPEARANCE: Beatrix suffers from the infamous 'resting bitch face'. Honestly. She tends to look bitchy, angry, grumpy, disinterested, or sarcastic as a default. Even when she's happy, there's something in those green eyes that still screams 'I'm mocking you'. Luckily for her, this face is still put together quite nicely. It's hard to be really mad when those plush lips are telling you off, after all. The downside there is those looks can also be hard to appreciate when she opens her mouth. (Level of resistance can vary)

As far as style goes, she never wears the pants uniform. A great catastrophe would have to occur, and she'd likely just take loss of points for skipping class if that were the case. Her hair is always immaculate, though she rarely has to do anything to get those natural waves unfortunately. Beatrix wears minimal makeup, but she always has it on (if you've seen her without then you're a real friend, truly) Her style outside a uniform tends towards the sexy and edgy styles, darker colors, nothing thrifty or secondhand. But it doesn't look pretentious either, surprisingly.
HEIGHT: 5'8"
PB: Phoebe Tonkin
PERSONALITY
LIKES: Shopping, high heels, coffee, fancy pretentious drinks from Starbucks, cheesecake, champagne, pretty girls, sarcasm, gossip, rumors (especially if she knows they're not true), pretty boys, snakes, melted chocolate (like fondue), being alone, makeup, watching quidditch, sex, accessories, using magic, horses
DISLIKES: Cake (unless it's Tira Misu), whiners, her parents, the idea of not being rich, bugs, pumpkin ANYTHING, being alone, swimming, potions, being on a broom, hearing about people's problems, labels
PERSONALITY:
To put it simply, Beatrix is a troublemaker, though nothing is ever so simple. At first glance, it's easy to see a shit-stirrer. And any other descriptive phrases you can think of to describe someone who likes to stir things up. She takes great pride in her ability to wreak havoc on others, though is quite cunning and meticulous about how she incites this chaos. That doesn't mean that people think Beatrix is a sweet and helpful girl, because let's face it she isn't THAT good of an actress, but she is pretty damn good at getting people to think she's at least an incorrigible mostly tolerable bitch. (And yes, she considers this a victory) Beatrix is used to being called a bitch, in fact she sees it as a compliment, and usually has some kind of biting remark to throw back when she does hear that label. Her tongue is sharp, her wit even sharper, and it's extremely hard to win a battle of words with this girl. Being raised in the elite society, Beatrix knows how to clean up her words when she has to, though she's still very good at making you feel like shit without outright coming right out and saying the nasty thing (she will say it, mind you, but she doesn't have to).
A bit of a wild child, but this natural attitude is tampered by her family's status and money and general reputation. She doesn't want to look bad, and HATES being perceived as weak or less than anyone else, so she makes sure to behave when she needs to behave. It's like a switch, on or off, and Beatrix is extremely adept at flipping it whenever she needs to. Does this get tiresome? Sure. Does that means she's going to whine about it and stop? Hell no. If nothing else, this embodiment of chaos is quite determined, and she is downright relentless. Being vulnerable and losing are two of the things she hates the most, so it's simply not an option to fail. This applies to everything in her life, and it's unfortunate for everyone that Beatrix can't ever turn down a challenge. As much as she's the bad girl, she is also effortlessly charming and unfairly alluring. She's an expert on wrapping people around her finger, and she takes great pride in these conquests. Everything is a game, everything has to have some advantage to her, and she is truly looking out for herself. At least mostly. Or so she'd have everyone believe.
Beatrix views most people more like possessions, and any affection she has for a lot of them is just because they are hers. She doesn't share well, and has abandonment and attention issues out the wazoo. This makes her cling to others, even if in her language clinging equates to insults and teasing. Beatrix is one of those girls who thinks any attention is good, even if it's the bad kind, so doesn't mind people hating her so long as they're paying attention to her. She fears being alone, though doesn't do much to make people want to stick around for the lasting relationships. It's a conflicting nature, and that vulnerability she hates is something she always fights. Being tough and independent, full of confidence and power, are the things she prides herself on most. Unfortunately, she also has a conscience (that she tries to hide) and a basic nature that conflicts with her overall behavior.
To a very few close friends, and maybe the most observant, it is apparent that Beatrix's heart really isn't in the sharp words. There's a sadness behind her eyes if you catch her just right, though one would be hard pressed to get her to talk about it. Or anything remotely serious, for that matter. Still, she isn't inherently evil, more projecting her own jaded feelings on the world. Yes, she has first world problems. No, she doesn't care if you think she's a spoiled brat. Being wealthy doesn't always equate to an easy life, and the threat of graduation is only making her moods swing more often. She can't decide how she feels about anything anymore, so if she just doesn't address it then it will go away. Right?

HISTORY:
There's not much to say about Beatrix's life that hasn't already been told a thousand times. Her parents met because their families were each of the wealthy and influential nature, and people of that sort tend to know each other. There is no great love story behind their marriage. It was one of convenience, of advantage, and that's all there is to it. Really, it's a miracle they can even stand each other the fifty percent of the time they do. Neither of them were particularly against the union, but they weren't for it either. They knew what they had to do and they did it. Like checking an item off a list. Done, the end.
Only they weren't done. Once they were married, people started talking about things like children. So they did that too. First with Beatrix's brother, and a few years after, with Beatrix herself. When they had that taken care of, they promptly continued as if nothing had changed. They had people for that sort of thing. Nannies and servants and a whole host of others who could take care of the children primarily. The only time her parents really offered any input was when it involved reputation and expectations and general attitude. (Now, this isn't to be mistaken as her parents tried to actively raise their children, it was more talking at them and displaying patterns of behavior the children were expected to imitate) Beatrix learned from an early age what she could and could not get away with. While it was true she didn't get punished in the traditional sense of the word, her parents' disappointment and disdain were readily apparent even to her young mind. Phrases like 'that's not proper' and 'people like us' were used often, and one Look from her mother could make her feel worse than any lecture or grounding might have. She learned quickly when it came to social things, and was a quick study as far as etiquette and the politics in their world. Beatrix may not have been the brightest student in traditional academics, but she knew that performing as well as she could made her look better. She learned how to talk at parties, how they wanted her to act when she was in public, all of it. While at home she might have been a terror that pushed her nannies into mud puddles or created mischief with the staff, Beatrix developed a sixth sense for when and where she could do those things and where she couldn't early on.
Despite the somewhat appearance oriented nature of their family, Beatrix developed just like any other child. She and her brother got along great for the most part, always teaming up against the servants or other children, but didn't hesitate to have the typical arguments siblings have if something didn't go their way. It never lasted long, and they began to see them more as continuations of various competitions than anything really serious. He was one of the few people who saw beyond the facade she painted for everyone else, who saw beyond the occasional teasing or insults or mischief or acting out. If she were more honest, which she isn't, she'd be able to admit that both he and their nanny are primarily responsible for making sure she didn't turn into her mother before she even hit double digits. As a child, all she knew was that he was her best friend, and the only person in the house that was real. Beatrix had friends at Port Prep, of course, though a lot of them were more in the 'subjects' category than actual serious relationships. With the exception of Penny. The two met in Port Prep, forging a bond almost immediately thanks to mutual disdain for being underestimated and a lack of the 'bubbly and extroverted' gene. Penny was the first person she'd met outside of her brother that made her feel any strong loyalty or emotion; made her feel anything resembling real affection. It was weird, but since their friendship was one of those instant things you see in movies, a rarity for both of them, she rolled with it. It was the highlight of her young life, and she (in only the way youth can) thought it was just going to keep getting better each year.
She was wrong.
Beatrix had begun showing small signs of magic at a young age, which was to be expected since both her parents had developed early also. Her brother, on the other hand, didn't. At first, their parents just thought he was a late bloomer. They didn't seem concerned. He was their son, their shining heir. It would come. A couple more years passed, but nothing happened. Her parents grew angry. They claimed he just wasn't trying hard enough. They ridiculed him. Everyone fought all the time. But still nothing happened. She watched her brother struggle over his attempts, saw how it broke and frustrated and angered him. But there was nothing she could do. Finally, her parents were forced to admit the truth: he was a squib. Beatrix knew what the word was, but she didn't quite understand what it meant. She had little to no contact with the no-maj population, and her parents opinion on the matter was no secret. Things were tense in the household surrounding the realization, and she could sense that something big was happening. Still young in a lot of ways, however, she had no guess as to what it was. The very next day, her parents told her that her brother had left. She found out later that they'd sent him away. To where, she wasn't sure, and since they didn't talk about him ever again, she eventually stopped asking. Beatrix learned from letters that arrived later that he'd been sent to distant relatives, but he wasn't allowed to see or even talk to her. The letters had to be sneaky, and came infrequently enough to not raise suspicion. By all other accounts, she no longer had a brother to speak to.
From then on out, Beatrix knew what her family was really about and she was so over it. She could tolerate them when she thought they at least somewhat had their backs, but knowing that wasn't true changed things. She became more surly, more quick to use the sharpness of her tongue, though more careful not to step out of line where anyone could see. Her parents still trotted her out at parties like nothing was wrong, though she could hear them telling their friends that it was a shame she wasn't a boy when they thought she wasn't listening. She kept the smile on, but her jadedness grew. Even more so when she was old enough to begin understand sexuality and her own preferences of attraction. It was clear to her from the beginning that not all boys inspired that rush of feeling in her when her parents presented her to them. There were girls that caught her eye when her parents weren't looking too. Beatrix knew from the emphasis they put on a 'proper match' that it wasn't something they would be accepting of. That was fine. She could pretend and keep things behind closed doors, as it were. The monotony of her life and all the secrets might have been her early untimely undoing if it wasn't for Gooseberry. Such a prestigious school, with a reputation for being one of the best and also one of the newest and most advanced drew her parents' attention. Beatrix wanted nothing to do with camping school, and made her protests quite known. She was ignored, of course, but she felt better for having spoken up at least. Her parents pulled some strings, threw some money around, and she was in. That first year was hard. Beatrix hated the atmosphere, complaining almost daily about the bugs, and hated the classes even more. She wasn't used to actually having to try. It only took a few letters dripping with disdain from her parents for her to shape that right up, and she soon settled into a comfortable routine. It helped having kids from Port Prep that she knew there, especially Penny, though she still resisted every bonding activity and otherwise kitschy event.
Eventually, she grew to actually like Gooseberry, though would never admit that out loud. It was a place away from her stifling life, a place where her parents weren't breathing expectations down her neck, and she could loosen up a little. Nobody there cared who she kissed, who she hung out with, who she ignored. Her attitude didn't change completely, of course, but she was a little less mean. Most days. Now that graduation is approaching, however, she's not sure what to do with herself. She doesn't exactly need to work, not with her parents talking about potential matches and whatever else, but she also isn't sure that's all she wants in life either.
SCHOOL
YEAR: Senior
HOUSE: Coppertale
SORTING: Competitive, bossy, a tendency to always want her way and get it at all costs? These are just some of the stereotypes associated with Coppertale, but they could be the only descriptions used for Beatrix's personality too. Her Sorting was an almost non-event. She had an idea of where she wanted to/should be, and she really wouldn't hear anything else. Beatrix looked impatient as the emblems made their case, but she didn't interrupt. What if they told someone and it got back to her parents? In the end, she went exactly where she belonged.
WAND: 9 3/4", Veela Hair, Ebony, rigid
FAMILIAR: A hawk named Lancelot.
CLASSES: Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, History of Magic, Hermeticism, DADA, Aesthetic Magic
SENIOR PROJECT: For awhile, Beatrix put off even thinking about this. Senior year seemed so far away, after all, and she was never the most attentive student. One day when she was going out for a party, she thought about the benefits of some kind of magical makeup. Making it last indefinitely (or at least for a several hours depending on what you need/buy) and making it change colors over time (sometimes you change more than once in an evening or aren't feeling a color for the entire night). She was half inspired by Faye and her project too, so the girls put their heads together from then on out. It's taken a lot of work, but it's been easier with someone to bounce ideas off of and gain help from. And honestly, she needed Faye for the potions. She's not really good at them.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Beatrix isn't a genius student, but she does well. It wouldn't look good if she flunked out, even if she really isn't expected to have a career per se (she kind of wants to keep her options open, honestly) She's exceptional at transfiguration and charms, especially. Potions is a bit of a struggle, and she's had to go to a tutor for that, but she works at the average for most other classes.
EXTRACURRICULARS: Archery, Duelling/Fencing, Equestrian
